Many school districts across the country have struggled with standardized testing. Adding new requirements onto that has predictably caused some issues.

The US Department of Education is now allowing districts to experiment and upgrade their test gradually instead of all at once.

The hope is that this will ease the growing pains.

The Every Student Succeeds Act will require students to be tested in reading and math, but states choose the test. The test data will also need to be aggregated into a number of different subgroups, like ethnicity and income level.
