New statewide ILEARN results show Indiana students made modest progress in math this year, while English language arts (ELA) scores remained largely flat.

According to data released by the Indiana Department of Education, 42.1% of students statewide were deemed proficient in math, up from 40.7% in 2024. ELA scores saw a slight dip, from 41% last year to 40.6% this year.

Locally, Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) reported proficiency rates below the state average but generally consistent with previous years. Around 21% of IPS students scored proficient in math, while 20% met proficiency in ELA.

Gaps among various demographics of students persist with Black and Hispanic students scoring lower on average than their White and Asian peers.
