The Indiana General Assembly recently established the Indianapolis Local Education Alliance (ILEA) to foster collaboration between the mayor’s office and school district leaders. The group will work together to create a unified strategy for overseeing all public schools, both traditional district schools and mayor sponsored charter schools within the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) boundaries.

Here are the members as recently announced:

• Bart Peterson – former mayor and former CEO of charter school network(mayor appointee).
• Maggie Lewis – Indianapolis City-County Council and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (mayor appointee).
• Angela Smith-Jones – associate vice president for state relations of IU; former deputy mayor of economic development (mayor appointee).
• Tobin McClamroch – Chair of Marian University Board of Trustees, (mayor appointee).
• Barato Britt – President Edna Martin Christian Center (IPS appointee).
• Tina Ahlgren – Current teacher and Hoosier Educator of the Year, 2024 (Traditional IPS parent appointee).
• Andrew Neal – CEO of Outreach Indiana (Innovation school IPS parent appointee).
