M.S.D of Wayne Township placed physical education teacher and basketball coach Don Carlisle on leave after he was accused of punching a high school student twice.

On Tuesday, WTHR reported Carlisle allegedly struck the 15-year-old 11th grade male student after a confrontation about why the student was changing into PE shoes outside of the locker room.

M.S.D. of Wayne Township issued the following statement:

“The safety and well-being of students and employees is a top priority, and we take misconduct allegations very seriously. Upon learning of this allegation, we immediately reported it to the Indiana Department of Child Services. We are fully cooperating with authorities throughout their investigation and will continue to do so.

The employee in question is on leave during the investigation. We respect the right to privacy and due process of everyone involved and will refrain from further comment at this time.” 

In March, Carlisle led the Ben Davis Giants to a state basketball championship with a perfect 33-0 season. In April, Carlisle was named the Indiana High School Coach of the Year during the Indiana High School Sports Awards show. In May, Carlisle received a Black Excellence in Education Award for physical education instruction.
