COVID-19 positives cases are on the rise, and schools are no exception. Not only does it take a lot of work for school leaders and teachers to ensure students are following COVID-19 guidelines, but it also takes a lot of work to contact trace. New guidelines from the Indiana Health Department are aiming to lower that burden.

Moving forward, schools that have a mask mandate do not have to contact trace and send individual notifications. Instead, a notification can be sent to the class to keep parents informed. 

This guidance may convince school districts that do not require masks to implement a mask mandate to eliminate the task of notifying families on an individual basis.

However, school mask mandates have been a divisive topic. Either direction schools decide to go, there will be upset parents that do not agree. Hopefully, parents will be able to understand that school district leaders are trying to do the best they can while working within the boundaries of the health department guidelines.
