In response to the growing spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), all public-school systems in Marion County will be temporarily closed. The state typically requires 180 days of instruction for schools, but schools will be given a 20-school day waiver to use as needed. The closure applies to public schools and city-sponsored charter schools. The break will run right up to the already scheduled spring break for most schools. If all goes as planned schools should open and resume regularly scheduled activity on Monday, April 6.

Other school districts around the state have already closed schools for a similar amount of time.

This closure coincides with a statewide ban on non-essential gatherings of more than 250 people.

According to state officials, 12 Indiana residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
