In 2016, Indiana’s graduation rate was 89 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Education figures released on Thursday. In 2015, the graduation rate was 88.8 percent.

That rate is up from 78 percent in 2006. However, not every Indiana diploma is created equal. It’s unclear how many students graduated with general diplomas and how many graduated with “Core 40” diplomas.

The latest results put the achievement gap on full display. 91 percent of white students graduated. However, only 80 percent of black students graduated.
