President Elect Trump has made his secretary of education pick. Like everything else he does, some people like it and some people hate it.
Betsy DeVos will be the head of the U.S. Department of Education in Trump’s administration. DeVos is a billionaire, businesswoman, and education activist. Best known as the daughter of Amway founder Richard DeVos, Betsy DeVos has her own resume.
Career experience:
- Chair of a privately held operating group that invests in technology and clean energy.
- Served as chair of the Michigan Republican Party.
Stances:
- Strong supporter of school vouchers and charter schools
- Does not support Common Core
- Supports homeschooling
What her goals as secretary of education will be remains to be seen, but her appointment is in line with the goals Trump cited in his first 100 days plan.
