Urban and rural schools generally lag behind their suburban counterparts. But rural schools appear to be making up ground.

According to a study by the National Association of State Boards of Education, rural schools have been steadily improving over the last decade.

The improvement is partly attributed to an intentional effort by the Obama administration to bring high-speed internet connections into schools. The internet has helped cover many of the gaps typically present in rural schools.

This isn’t to say that obstacles still persist. Rural schools still are “called to do more with less,” according to the report. However, despite the obstacles, rural schools are still making strides.
