According to the Indy-Star, an Indiana congressman would like to make changes to the federal free lunch program. Todd Rokita, R-Indianapolis, has proposed raising the threshold for schools to qualify for free meals for all students.

Currently, if a school has at least 40% of its student body receiving free or reduced lunch, it can provide free lunch to all students. Rokita would like to raise the required percentage to 60%.

Rokita says the plan would save money and help families, but critics say it could cause students to miss meals and strain private-sector food banks.
